Marie-Christine Laurent studied Biology & Toxicology at the University Victor Segalen Bordeaux 2 (France) before completing her studies in Lyon with an MSc in Microbiology and a professional placement as Research Assistant in the R&D lab of the dairy product Group Bel (Babybel, Laughing Cow, etc…). She moved to the UK in 2002 and joined Huntingdon Life Sciences, a Contract Research Organisation, where she trained and became Study Manager in Toxicology. Marie‑Christine project managed complex pre-clinical toxicology safety studies, ranging from short term to carcinogenicity studies in rodent and non-rodent species; this included studies for pharmaceutical, agrochemical, food and industrial materials for international clients. In March 2013, Marie‑Christine joined the clinical field and moved to the Addenbrooke’s CCTU unit, where she started working as Clinical Trials Coordinator on the SPINLab Hyperpolariser project for carbon-13 MRI. She coordinated and managed the early stages of this project and formally joined the Department of Radiology in May 2014 as Research Coordinator to manage the set-up of a new sterile room in the Trust pharmacy (filling-up process of bespoke sterile kits used with the SPINLab Diamond Hyperpolariser) and set-up associated cancer imaging clinical trials/physiological studies on the Hyperpolariser project.
As of June 2016, Marie-Christine has taken over as Project Manager for the Hyperpoliser Project.
